RARE Restoration by Catchlight Painting

Furniture repair for the pieces you want to keep.

A loose chair, a worn table, a piece passed down through the family. We repair and restore furniture so you can keep using it. We also work on lamps, lighting and other objects that need a skilled hand.

A RARE restorer sits hunched over a small chair frame, chiselling the last of the old caning out of its seat, with a tall wicker chair waiting beside them.

A few things we have repaired.

Wooden chair with a newly caned seat; the carved back splat shows where a missing piece of detail was restored.

Simple Touches

This chair needed re-caning and a small repair to its carved back. We included the extra detail work at no charge.

Side chair rebuilt on the workbench after heavy damage, with a newly turned stretcher fitted between the legs.

Turning to the Lathe

We turned a new stretcher, recreated missing details and re-glued this damaged chair, then stained, toned, waxed and buffed it.

Seth leans over an antique treadle sewing machine table on the workbench, adjusting the carved upper corner of the cabinet above its cast-iron treadle and drive wheel.

Sewing Table to Writing Desk

Seth prepares to turn an old sewing machine table into a writing desk, keeping the treadle and adding a reclaimed bureau top.

If you are wondering whether something can be repaired, start with a conversation. Tell us what happened, what matters to you about the piece and how you would like to use it. We will talk through what may be possible and what the work would involve.
